The Role The Staff Safety and Security Focal plays a vital role in implementing the Safety & Security Policy and facilitating the safety and security of staff, operations and assets across all areas of operation. Reporting to the Finance and Operations Manager (or designated Security Coordinator), with a functional line to the ActionAid International Global Safety and Security Lead, the Staff Safety and Security Focal is responsible for implementing and monitoring organizational security protocols and procedures that align with ActionAid’s humanitarian principles, global safety & security policy and local context-specific risks. The Staff Safety and Security Focal will work closely with operational staff, program teams, partners and local stakeholders to ensure that security measures support uninterrupted access to project areas, while enabling the safe delivery of humanitarian and development programs. The role requires up to 35-40% travel to the programme and project sites. The Staff Safety and Security Focal will regularly assess threats and risks in project locations, maintain updated security documentation, and provide timely advice to leadership to support risk-informed decision-making. S(he) will also lead incident management, coordinate staff security training, ensure compliance with donor and partner security requirements, including those of UN agencies, and the INGO Forum. This role demands strong analytical capacity, contextual understanding of conflict dynamics, and the ability to operate with discretion and professionalism in high-risk environments. Skills and qualifications Qualification & Experience Education, experience & technical competencies. 1. Bachelor’s degree in
community development, social sciences or other relevant field of study 2. A minimum of 5 years
of non-profit or INGO work experience within international humanitarian
assistance programs with demonstrated capabilities in planning, organizing and
executing security operations in the field. 3. Strong knowledge of
cultural sensitivities, clan dynamics, traditional behaviors & security
context. 4. Able to travel to
the field on daily/weekly and monthly basis as and when needed 5. Advanced knowledge
in communications technology, including satellite communications, cell phone,
website monitoring, etc; 6. Strong experience as
a trainer; ability to develop, implement, facilitate and impart learning to a
wide range of audiences. 7. Fluency in English
and Somali languages is a requirement. 8. Relevant skills in
staff safety and security – policies, procedures and practices 9. Familiarity with
humanitarian/development context, especially MPCT, protection, and emergency
livelihoods 10. Knowledge of project
management cycle 11. Grants Management
